B E N & K A T E
St. Ives, Cornwall, 2018
The first of October marked Kate & Ben’s beautiful, dreamlike intimate wedding at the ever lovely St Ives in Cornwall. They have been coming to West Cornwall for years and years and dream of someday moving here so it was their obvious choice when they got engaged and began their wedding planning. They wanted a low-key, super chilled vibe and I think they pretty much nailed it with an intimate ceremony at the stunning Guildhall in the council chambers followed by a slap-up, delicious buffet at their favourite beach cafe which kinda, pretty much comes with its own beach. Technically, Porthgwidden beach is public but in October it was all but deserted and the best part was the family were able to bring their gorgeous Afghans (and Bichon Frise!) to join the party and run wild around the sand.
This is hand on heart one of my favourite weddings ever. I adore lavish country house venues and I live for fairytale castles but equally, I cherish a sweet and super chill beach wedding in Cornwall and I hold this particular one very close to my heart.
Kate and her bridesmaids rented a gorgeous Air BnB above the Hub in St Ives with the best ever views. Her lace gown although a vintage find was absolutely made for her and her ivory bridesmaids dresses were a Zara find and perfect for the super relaxed, beach, boho bridesmaid vibe. After the ceremony, the entire congregation took the very scenic path along the St Ives seafront and through the cobbled back streets to the Porthgwidden beach cafe venue. Burgers and canapés were waiting while Ben, Kate & I headed to some of their favourite spots around to capture some intimate and romantic couple photos of them both.
Initially when they booked me, they told me they were hoping for moody and atmospheric weather but as it happened, they had perfect sunshine. Normally bright sunlight is a photographer’s nightmare because of the harsh shadows it casts on people but there’s something magical about the st Ives light and coupled with the soft autumn haze, the light was dreamlike and so so perfect for them. They quickly changed their mind about the stormy vibes and besides, their guests got to spend the afternoon hanging out on the beach and bravely dipping their toes in the freezing ocean.
An acoustic musician got the party going and set the beach wedding vibe perfectly for the evening dancing. With views of the autumn ocean, flickering candles and festoon lights it was the perfect, dreamy day and I’m so glad that I made two new friends from this brilliant, little wedding who I still see to this day! <3 Dang, I love my job :) Being a Cornwall wedding photographer has its perks.
